In 2007, the Shaw family’s cousin was diagnosed with Crohn's disease.
This is her story:
“Hi, my name is Shannon. I am eleven and a half years old. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s when I was nine. I am very healthy now, but I used to be really sick. I missed tons of school and couldn’t play all the sports I like. In May 2007 I was back in the hospital and had to get a nose tube (NG tube) and couldn’t eat anything except popsicles for six weeks, so for my 10th birthday I had a cake made out of popsicles! Now that I am healthy again I play indoor and outdoor soccer, I love to skate, ski and swim. I also enjoy biking with my friends.”
In June 2009, Polar Spas (Edmonton) Ltd. helped Shannon fundraise for the “Crohn’s and Colitis Heel ‘N’ Wheel-a-Thon”. Shannon’s team, “The Gutsy Group”, successfully raised over $3000 towards finding a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Kenya School - 2009
Two members of the Polar Spas family travelled to Kenya in May 2009. They helped to rebuild an abandoned school that houses nearly 500 students. The school was originally built with funding from the Kenyan government many years ago. Since then, both the Kenyan and Ugandan government have laid claim to the island the school rests on. Through a clout of political bickering, the school became abandoned by both governments - leaving little more than a shack that is struggling to stay alive. The anticipated total cost of the trip (for 23 people) was around $30,000. This included transportation, accommodations, food and building supplies. Polar Spas donated 1% of sales during the month of April to this cause. Thanks to the generous support of our customer’s, a total of $2139.42 was raised through sales and $1100 through cash donations.

Keri’s Tournament of Hope and Awareness Keri’s Tournament of Hope and Awareness was started when our friend Keri Mozlan lost a two-year battle with Colorectal Cancer on June 10th, 2006, at the tender age of 24. One of Keri's greatest passions was slo-pitch; therefore it was only fitting to host a ball tournament in her memory.Polar Spas (Edmonton) Ltd. has been a corporate sponsor of the tournament since 2007, helping to create awareness and prevent this devastating cancer.
